'Kicking ass in six frames' is a cool little idea from the magazine 'Little White Lies'. The idea is to tell the story of a film in just 6 frames, and use the frame layout provided. This throws up alot of cool comics strips that push the limits of a comic. It seems impossible to fit a movie of 1-2 hours into just 6 frames, but it can be done and shows how man comic strips rely things happening outside of the frames for us to fully understand the story.
The comics are all done in black and white which again limits the storytelling aspects as yo can rely on colour to set the scene of add various effects. I think it would be a good experiment to have a go at this as it will puhs my storytelling techniques alot.
Looking at some of the strips, I really like the Psycho one by Claire Murray. The bold style makes it much less 'offensive' and almost makes it looks funny. I've never seen the film [and dont plan on doing so] but I dont think the storytelling works too well here, as I dont really have a clue what's going on..
Im not too sure whether the brief suggests horror movies as the subject, but it makes sense that alot of them are of horror movies. The horror genre is a very visual one and relies on shocking visual imagery, so its easier to capture that than it is to capture alot of talking into one comic frame.
Im defiantly going to have a go myself at this, as way to experiment with storytelling.
